Bike transport insurance
& damage claims

Understand the insurance charge before booking and keep the right records from pickup to delivery. We use ICICI Lombard policies for insurance arrangements; the policy issued for your consignment determines the actual cover.

Before you agree to insurance

Check three things together: the charge in your transport quotation, the insured value and the cover stated in the issued policy. Paying an insurance charge is not a substitute for receiving and checking the insurance document.

How the 3% insurance charge is calculated

The calculation uses the declared bike value, not the transport bill. For example:

₹50,000 value

₹1,500 charge

₹80,000 value

₹2,400 charge

₹1,00,000 value

₹3,000 charge

These are arithmetic examples, not suggested valuations for particular models. The 3% is our stated booking charge, not a universal ICICI Lombard premium rate. Ask for the insurer’s premium, any service charges and applicable taxes to be identified clearly. Confirm whether the quoted total includes taxes before paying.

Agree the declared value and insured amount

Share the bike’s make, model, age, condition and relevant value documents. Ask how the insurer requires the value to be assessed for this transit, then check the amount actually recorded in the policy.

You can show the IDV (Insured Declared Value) on your existing motor policy as a reference for discussion. Do not assume it automatically becomes the agreed value for a separate transit policy, or that the original showroom price is the correct figure.

Disclose fitted accessories or modifications and ask whether they are included and need separate listing. Changing the declared amount simply to reduce the charge can leave a mismatch between the bike and its insurance. A higher declared amount also does not mean that amount will automatically be paid for a partial loss.

Check the booking conditions before deciding

Ask what insurance arrangement is required or available for your booking and review the actual cover before accepting it. Consider the bike’s value and the consequences of a loss, rather than choosing only from the percentage charged or the route length.

If you intend to rely on existing insurance or arrange your own cover, discuss that before pickup and confirm the required documents. Do not assume a transport fee includes comprehensive insurance or that declining a policy settles questions about responsibility for damage. The booking terms, circumstances and applicable requirements still matter. Read our terms and conditions.

Questions to ask your current bike insurer

Before relying on your existing two-wheeler policy, ask the insurer about this exact journey and method of transport. Keep their response with your booking documents.

Compare the answers with the proposed transit cover. The two policies should not be assumed to offer identical protection.

What does the ICICI Lombard transit policy cover?

ICICI Lombard’s general transit guidance lists Inland Transit Clause A and Clause B options with different scopes. Its website describes risks such as fire and vehicle accidents, and exclusions such as inadequate packing, ordinary wear and delay-related expenses. These general descriptions do not confirm which cover has been issued for your bike.

Check the selected clause, schedule and endorsements. Ask specifically about theft, scratches, dents, broken mirrors, mechanical or electrical damage, loading, unloading and any holding period. For an electric two-wheeler, disclose the model and battery and confirm eligibility and conditions.

A deductible or excess is the amount treated according to the policy before a payable claim amount is determined. Ask what applies to your consignment. Claim acceptance and the assessed amount depend on the issued cover, evidence and insurer’s assessment; “insured” does not mean every mark or fault is payable.

Check the bike and insured party details, origin and destination, dates, insured amount, packing requirements, claim channel and notice deadlines before the move. Correct any mismatch with the issuing party rather than assuming it will not matter.

If the bike arrives damaged

  1. Compare and record. Check the bike against pickup photographs and the condition record. Note the actual concern on the delivery record rather than confirming a condition you have not checked.
  2. Photograph the evidence. Take clear photographs of the affected area and available packaging. Keep the pickup images for comparison.
  3. Contact our team promptly. Call +91 87005 27865 with the consignment number and keep a written record of the concern.
  4. Notify the insurer. Follow the reporting channel and notice deadline in the issued policy. Telling our transport team does not replace notice required by the insurer. Retain the claim reference.
  5. Preserve evidence. Ask the insurer for inspection and repair instructions before non-urgent repairs or disposal of damaged parts and packing.
  6. Follow the assessment process. Supply requested documents and estimates through the verified insurer or surveyor channel, and retain copies.

Keep the claim documents organised

Keep these booking and condition records available: policy or certificate, written quote, payment receipt, consignment note or tracking number, pickup record, delivery record and photographs from both ends.

The insurer or appointed surveyor will confirm what else is needed for your case. Ask whether they require a claim form, ownership documents, repair estimate or invoice, and any incident-specific report. Submit identity, bank or policy documents only through their verified channel—not a public review or our quote form.

ICICI Lombard claim contact and assessment

The insurer’s official transit page lists its commercial claims service, 1800 2666 and [email protected]. Follow the handling instructions in your issued policy if a specific contact is provided.

The insurer describes notification, survey or assessment, document submission and review. We do not promise automatic acceptance, a fixed settlement amount or a payment date. Keep the claim reference when following up.

If someone else will receive the bike

Share the pickup photographs, condition record and consignment number with that person before delivery. Explain how to record a concern and who to contact. Keep the quote, policy, receipt and delivery record in one private folder so they are easy to find if needed. See the booking guide for the full handover checklist.

Bike transport insurance: common questions

Is 3% calculated on the transport bill?

No. Our insurance charge uses the bike’s declared value. At ₹1,00,000 declared value, the charge is ₹3,000, separate from transport.

Is the 3% a standard ICICI Lombard premium?

No. It is our stated booking charge. Ask for the policy premium, service charges and applicable taxes to be shown clearly, and compare the actual cover as well as the total.

Is insurance compulsory for my booking?

Confirm the applicable booking conditions with the team before pickup. If you want to rely on another policy or arrange cover separately, raise that at the quotation stage.

Does every scratch qualify for a claim?

No. The selected cover, exclusions, deductible and evidence determine whether a loss is payable. Do not assume that the full declared value is due for any damage.

What is the deadline to report damage?

Record and report concerns promptly. Check the insurer’s exact notice deadline in the issued policy and follow its instructions; do not wait for a transport-team reply before making required insurer notification.

Can I use the IDV from my existing motor policy?

Use it as a reference to discuss with the issuing party. Confirm the required valuation basis and the amount in the transit policy instead of assuming the two values are automatically interchangeable.

Can I repair the bike immediately?

Ask the insurer about survey and repair requirements before non-urgent work. Preserve photographs and available evidence, and explain any urgent safety situation when notifying them.

Where should I send private claim documents?

Use the verified channel specified by the insurer or its appointed surveyor. Do not upload identity, bank or policy records to public reviews or the website quote form.
